Collections & House Photos

It occurred to me that I only post photos of my house at Christmas time. You've never seen it in it's ordinary state. And, I've been thinking about collections recently. I'm such a collector. I'm happy to say I've slowed down in recent years, but a collector I am and probably always will be. Fortunately, I started most of my collections years and years ago, back when antiques were more affordable. If I had to replace all my antiques today, I wouldn't have very much!

The photo above is my collection of gourds, not very old, not very expensive, but well loved. Carol Sims gave me the two large ones for Christmas last year. I love them!

This is a small collection of antique sewing stuff that is in my living room. The most recent thing I bought in this collection is the green spindle pincushion. I bought it about 7 or 8 years ago.

This is my collection of transferware. The photo below is a close up. On top of the cuboard is my collection of blown glass jars. I've had those for more than 20 years.

The transferware collection is fairly new for me. About five years ago, my friend Anne Brown started collecting transferware when we went antiquing together. I thought she was nuts! It didn't take long before I was convinced that it was pretty cool stuff! This collection is actually a combo of Anne's transferware and mine. When Anne decided she didn't want to decorate with antiques any more, I bought her collection from her. And the cupboard it's in!

The tiny compote on my dining room table contains part of my collection of stone fruit. I've been collecting that for about 10 years. There's another bowl of it in my kitchen and one in my "old office" as well. We've yet to come up with a name for the room that used to be my office.

I've been collecting stoneware forever. I haven't bought a piece for a good 15 years. I keep it on top of my cupboards in the kitchen. It goes great with the beamed ceiling.

This is the compote of stone fruit in my kitchen. I LOVE this photos because it shows the crooked-ness of everything old. The compote is crooked, the chopping block is crooked, the fireplace wall is crooked.

This is my (small) collection of firkins in my dining room. I'm very grateful the bucket bench it's on is small so that I don't need to keep buying firkins. They're much too expensive these days!

This is just a far away shot of the bucket bench and firkins.

This is the living room fireplace with the woodstove we use to heat the front part of the house. It has my big collection of ONE antique painting.

This red cupboard is in my living room. It's a pretty boring cupboard but I love the beeskeps on top. I have one more beeskep that lives on top of the dryer in my laundry room.

This is a closet in one of the guestrooms upstairs. I love the little antique dress on the door. I've been collecting antique children's clothes for years and doubt I'll ever stop. They are my biggest downfall.

This is a collection of little sewing stuff in the guestroom. I've had every bit of it for years and years.

The same guest room. I take the curtains off the windows in the summertime. Stone houses are very dark because the window well are so deep, so anytime I can let it some light, I do!

More antique clothes in the same guestroom.

More antiques in the same guestroom.

More antique sewing stuff in the other guestroom.

Antique clothes and quilts in the other guestroom.

More old children's clothes in the other guestroom.

That's it! Until Christmas!!

Thank you for sharing photos of your collections and your home. Everything is so beautiful and very interesting! Don't you just love a good find?

I would have to say vintage linens are my downfall. We went to an estate sale today, and I found a quilt top, kind of crazy quilt style but with art deco shapes, and a few smaller pieces. Made my whole day!

I would love to fold this big old country right in half just so I could take a closer peek at your East Coast antiques. It is rare to find those truly old pieces out here on the Frontier. :)

Great photos, thanks for sharing. I love the pocket in the last but one photo - ever thought of charting it? There are not very many pockets available to us stitchers.
